Sarah McMillan

Sarah McMillan is a writer, editor and appraiser specializing in fine art. She can write and edit academic articles, auction catalogs, e-commerce listings and provide content marketing for businesses. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University majoring in Art History and Italian, and a Master’s degree in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art. Her educational training focused on Old Master prints, but her seven years working in the art industry has given her a specialized knowledge of Contemporary, Modern and 19th Century prints. She has also researched, written about and appraised other media, including paintings, photographs, and sculpture.

Starting her career at the auction house Doyle New York in their appraisals department, she gained a solid foundation of cataloging knowledge of furniture, fine and decorative arts. She also edited and managed the production of estate tax appraisals. She then transitioned her career to the e-commerce realm working as a curator and editor at sites such as Everything But the House and For these sites she vetted hundreds of works of art a day, including work by artists such as Dali, Manet, Remington and Currier & Ives, among many others.

Now Ms. McMillan focuses her work on independently researching, writing and editing art related texts for businesses, authors and academics, and providing USPAP compliant appraisals for those in need of a valuation of their art collection.
